About the artist
My name is Mandy Olson and I live in Kansas with my husband, our 3 dogs Cisco Chance and Sophie (click on their names to see their webpage), two well fed cats, an aviary with six cockatiels, and a leopard tortoise. I also have some miniature horses. I'm a 2001 graduate of Kansas State University where I received two degrees, one in Illustration and another in Graphic Design. I've been sculpting ever since I can remember. Animals have always been my subject matter. Dogs make such great subjects because of their funny traits and sincere expressions. Great detail is put into the sculpting to bring out those expressions. I use high quality polymer clay for my sculptures because very small details can be achieved with it, it can be fired at low temperatures (versus kiln clay), and it's not messy. After it's fired I carefully paint the dogs with high quality acrylic paints. I pay close attention to their eyes, most expression comes from them. I love what I do and I appreciate all of my wonderful customers that make it possible for me to sculpt full time. Dog people are the BEST customers!
